Original late-19th-century advertising trade card for Indian Queen Perfume, sold by Bean & Brother, 47 & 49 North Second Street, Philadelphia.
The front features an elaborate chromolithographed scene depicting a Native American woman in traditionalized dress surrounded by lush flowering plants, with ornate Victorian lettering reading “Indian Queen Perfume.” The reverse advertises the perfume at 25¢, 50¢ and $1.00 per bottle and identifies a local retailer:
Dr. J. L. Bost, General Store, Olive Branch, N.C.
This retailer imprint makes the card more interesting than a generic perfume trade card because it connects the advertisement to a specific historic North Carolina merchant.
