Antique 1880s–1890s Carhart’s Choice Sweet Snuff Advertising Needle Book
Original late-19th-century Carhart’s Choice “CC” Sweet Scotch Snuff advertising needle book/trade card, produced as a promotional giveaway for the tobacco company.
The colorful front features a large red CC trademark, an illustrated Carhart’s Sweet Scotch Snuff tin, and the slogans “It Pays to Use the Best” and “Highest Grade Sweet Snuff.” The reverse depicts Factory 47 in Nashville, Tennessee, identified as the factory of the United States Tobacco Co. and advertised as “The Largest Snuff Manufacturers in the World.”
What makes this piece particularly interesting is that it isn't simply an advertising card—it is a sewing needle/pin book, with rows of metal needles or pins originally stapled into the folded card. A virtually identical example is currently identified by a specialist antique-paper dealer as an 1880s–1890s Carhart’s Scotch Snuff promotional needle book
