Hand-embroidered silk souvenir handkerchief featuring crossed United States and French flags beneath the inscription “Souvenir de France.” Made for Allied soldiers and volunteers stationed in France during World War I, these were popular keepsakes purchased in French towns or sent home in care packages.

The example uses delicate silk threadwork in chain and satin stitch, with metallic accents, on fine gauze silk—typical of trench souvenirs crafted by French and Belgian women around 1917–1919. Professionally mounted on dark mat board and framed in a gilt frame for preservation.
