Offered here is a rare and fully original antique cast iron tobacco cutter, boldly marked “BROWN’S MULE,” manufactured by the R.J.R. Tobacco Co. (R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company), circa late 1800s to early 1900s.
🔸 This cutter is complete and in excellent working condition, mounted on what appears to be its original wooden base, and retains a beautiful aged patina throughout.
🔸 The unit features clear factory-stamped markings, including:
• “3019” on the main lever arm (likely the model number)
• “3017” on the internal mechanical linkage (a matching original part)
• Embossed “R.J.R. TOB. CO.” on the cast iron arch
• Raised lettering “BROWN’S MULE” on the bed
🔸 The base also features 1 INCH and 2 INCH measurement marks cast directly into the iron—these were used to size tobacco plug cuts and are a rare original detail.
📏 Dimensions:
• Length: 18.5 inches
• Height: 7.5 inches
• Width (base): 4.5 inches
✅ The cast iron is structurally sound, the cutting mechanism functions properly, and the wooden base is sturdy and original to the unit—showing wear consistent with age but no major damage or repairs.
