Original late-19th-century Diamond Dyes advertising trade card featuring a colorful Victorian domestic scene. The front depicts a woman demonstrating the dyeing of fabric before a group of women, with various brightly colored textiles displayed in the background.
Front advertising reads in part:
“Class in Economy. Diamond Dyes”
“Now You Have Seen How Color All Kinds of Articles They Are the Best in the World.”
The reverse contains extensive advertising for The Diamond Dyes for Domestic and Fancy Dyeing, promoting their use on dresses, coats, shawls, yarn, silk, cotton, carpet rags, ribbons, feathers and other textiles. The advertised price was 10 cents, and the card states that one package could dye from one to four pounds of material depending upon the desired shade.
This is a particularly attractive example of Victorian advertising ephemera because the illustration directly demonstrates the product rather than simply displaying a company logo.
