Original vintage oil painting signed “Salena” in the lower right corner. This atmospheric work depicts a lively open-air art or street market, with artists and shoppers gathered beneath a long covered arcade. Easels, paintings, tables and architectural columns fill the scene, rendered with expressive, heavily textured brushwork.
The artist uses warm earth tones contrasted with blue sky and strong areas of light and shadow, giving the painting an appealing impressionistic quality. The reverse of the canvas contains handwritten notations that appear to reference the location or subject of the scene.
The painting is housed in a substantial traditional antiqued wood-tone frame with linen liner. Both the canvas construction and framing are consistent with a vintage work.
The artist's signature appears to read “Salena.” The painting reportedly has a Myrtle Beach/Conway, South Carolina area connection, although I have not been able to establish a definitive attribution to a documented artist. It should therefore be sold as signed Salena, rather than assigning a full artist name without additional provenance.
An attractive original painting with excellent decorative presence, particularly suited for traditional, Mediterranean, European, café, restaurant, library or collected interiors.
