Description
Original late-19th-century advertising trade card promoting Standard Screw Fastened Boots & Shoes, distributed by E. V. Sortore of Belmont, New York.
The illustrated front features an elaborate Victorian-era scene with an elephant pulling a shoe-shaped carriage, children gathered around, and a salesman displaying footwear. Advertising text includes:
“Be Sure You Get Real Standard Screw Fastened”
“Better Than All Others for Children & Misses School Shoes”
“Palmer, Herbert, Arlington & Partridge”
“Beats All Kinds of Nailed Shoes”
The reverse is heavily typographic and advertises Standard Screw Fastened Boots & Shoes, warning customers to “Look Out for Nailed Goods.” It identifies Lewis P. Ross, Rochester, N.Y. and retailer E.
