Early 20th-century cast iron figural dog nutcracker manufactured by L.A. Althoff Manufacturing Company of Chicago, Illinois. This unique antique kitchen tool features a detailed standing dog mounted on a cast iron base with a tail lever mechanism used to crack nuts.

To operate, a nut is placed in the dog’s mouth and the tail is pressed downward, applying leverage to crack the shell. Pieces like this were popular household novelty tools during the early 1900s and are now sought after by collectors of antique kitchenware and cast iron figural items.
