Barbour Silver Co. Quadruple Plate Engraved Footed Bowl (Model 998)

Barbour Silver Co. Quadruple Plate Engraved Footed Bowl (Model 998)

$41.00 USD

This is a late Victorian-era quadruple silverplate bowl, made by Barbour Silver Co. (founded 1892 in Hartford, CT, later merged into International Silver Co.). "Quadruple plate" means the piece received four times the typical amount of silver plating, common for higher-end silverplate items of the period (1890s–1910s). The elaborate floral and scroll engraving is typical of the Art Nouveau influence in early Barbour designs. It holds value to collectors of Victorian silverplate, but because it’s not sterling, the value is decorative and historic, not intrinsic.
